School Meals

Our school meals are provided by North Yorkshire County Council and follow a healthy-eating policy.

Our meals are produced freshly every day in a school kitchen from only:

  • fresh meat and poultry sourced from the region
  • fruit and vegetables sourced regionally where possible using local suppliers
  • products free from additives associated with health problems in young children
  • fats free from hydrogenated oils
  • with menus that are nutritionally balanced

Children can have a cooked lunch, cooked each day on the premises by our school cook, Magda, or they may bring a packed lunch and drink with them. Please make sure that all lunch boxes are named and that children have water in an unbreakable container.  Please note that we encourage children to bring a healthy packed lunch and do not allow sweets, chocolate or crisps. For ideas about health packed lunch options, please click here.  For health and safety reasons the school operates a no nuts policy due to an increasing number of children having allergic reactions to nuts.

The cost of school meals is £2.85 per day. You will be notified of any changes by letter as and when they occur. In order to remove cash and cheques from school, parents are now required to pay for school meals using ParentPay.

Snacks and drinks

Children in EYFS, Year 1 and 2 receive a piece of fruit or vegetable daily and are encouraged to eat these. Children in Key stage 2 (Years 3-6) are encouraged to bring a snack of fruit or vegetables each day.

All children should bring water in a clear bottle to ensure they can access drinking water throughout the day. Children under 5 receive free milk daily. Parents of older children can subscribe to Coolmilk if they wish to continue receiving milk for their child beyond the age of 5.

We ask that parents do not send sweets into school for children's birthdays.

Free School Meals
All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are eligible for a free school meal under current government regulations

Free school meals are also available to children whose parents are in receipt of one or more of the following benefits:

  • Universal credit, provided you have an annual net earned income of no more that £7400, as assessed by earnings from up to threeof your most recent assessment periods (£616.67 per month)
  • Income support
  • income-based job seeker’s allowance
  • income-related employment and support allowance
  • Child Tax Credit with an income of less than £16,190 and not in receipt of working tax credit
  • support under part six of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • guarantee element of state pension credit.

Where parents are entitled to working tax credit during a four week “run on” period immediately after their employment has ceased, or after they have started to work less than 16 hours per week, their children are entitled to free school meals.

Children who receive income support or income based jobseeker’s allowance in their own right are also entitled to free school meals.

Should you meet the above criteria, you can apply via the link below.

Applications are usually processed the same day. If your child is entitled to free school meals you will receive a letter confirming the date when the meals will start. The school is also notified that your child is entitled to free school meals. In the meantime, you should continue to pay for school meals until confirmation comes through. Schools may be able to arrange a reimbursement of any monies paid whilst your entitlement is being confirmed. If you are not entitled to free school meals you will be notified in writing.
